The Native American Land Conservancy (NALC) protects
endangered Native American sacred sites and areas. Founded
in 1998, the NALC has acquired threatened cultural landscapes, organized conferences
in order to promote Native American land
preservation, and formed cooperative agreements with tribes, public
agencies, and conservation groups.
ACQUISITIONS
The NALC works with tribes to identify endangered
Native American sites with the goal of protecting these sites
through a land
acquisition program. The NALC secures funding to acquire these sacred sites and provides
financial assistance to qualified Native American nonprofit organizations with the same goals.
COOPERATIVE AGREEMENTS
The NALC works with tribes, conservation groups, and state agencies to develop cooperative agreements
that will ensure the long-term protection and preservation of Native American traditional cultural properties.
LAND MANAGEMENT
The NALC works with institutions of higher learning, research institutions, and conservation groups
to provide for the long-term protective management of Native American sacred sites and areas.
TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO TRIBES
The NALC provides assistance to tribes and intertribal groups
that are interested in protective management and Native-controlled
land conservancies.
EDUCATION
Through the Theresa A. Mike Scholarship Fund, the NALC supports
scholarships to Native American students engaged in college-level
cultural or environmental studies.
LEARNING AND HEALING LANDSCAPES
The NALC promotes healing in the Native American community and understanding
between Native and non-Native communities through programs in the
NALC's Old Woman Mountains Preserve.
PUBLICATIONS AND DOCUMENTARIES
The NALC publishes books, articles, and documentaries that focus
on the cultural, biological, and historical value and importance of sacred
sites and areas.
CONFERENCES
The NALC coordinates conferences that bring together different
groups and organizations. At these events, we create new strategies to more
effectively identify, acquire and protectively manage Native American sacred lands.

The NALC is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization (ID#33-0832220)
